Already 20,000 complaints to the reporting center about Nintendo Switch

It reporting point is a collaboration of the Consumers’ Association and nine other European consumer organizations. The number of complaints has now reached 20,700. Almost half of these were received by the Dutch Consumers’ Association: over 9,200 complaints.

The reports show that 95 percent of consumers experienced a malfunction with the Nintendo Switch within two years of purchase. Almost 74 percent bought a new controller after the problems.

Nintendo is still unclear about the options for free replacement or repair of the problem.

“The number of reports is overwhelming. Many consumers are dissatisfied, but Nintendo continues to sell this defective product,” says Sandra Molenaar, director of the Consumers’ Association. “That is unacceptable. We are therefore considering further steps, together with the other consumer organizations and the European umbrella organization BEUC, which is coordinating the action.”

The Consumers’ Association is particularly looking for consumers who suffer from the so-called Joy-Con drift problem. Characters or the camera in games are then controlled without touching the lever of the controller. There is a problem with the mounting of the lever, which has been going on since the introduction of the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
