Bruno Famin, the interim team boss at the Alpine team, does not want the 2026 engine regulations to be tinkered with, despite complaints from Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner. The Frenchman thinks that the teams, the FIA and the engine suppliers can come up with solutions if problems arise with the chassis regulations. After all, Famin would also find it unfair if anything were changed to the motorcycle regulations.
During the past season, the Red Bull team boss shared his concerns about the 2026 regulations. This is when the engine and chassis regulations will be overhauled within Formula 1. The MGU-H will disappear from the power sources and the electrical power of the engine will be reduced. a lot more important. However, it is expected that a lot will have to change on the chassis side in order not to lose too much performance. Horner therefore already warned against Frankenstein cars.
For the time being, concerns about the 2026 cars are only shared within Red Bull. At Alpine they are certainly not prepared to adjust things. ‘All engine manufacturers are already hard at work at the moment. They have already made important choices for the design of the engine and also for the technology they want to develop,” Famin is quoted by Motorsport.com. ‘Changing things about the engine regulations now would not be good. It is even unacceptable, that is clear.’
Alpine expects solutions
Nevertheless, the Frenchman partly shares Horner’s concerns when it comes to the chassis, although the Frenchman thinks there is still plenty of time to look at it. Alpine’s interim team boss thinks the FIA and the teams will work it out. ‘If you are talking about energy management and drag, we can still work on that in the coming months. There is no rush in that regard. I am convinced that with the chassis regulations we will find a way to create good cars and therefore good races,” said Famin.
