Alpine Skiing Season Challenges and Christmas Plans with Mikaela Shiffrin

The start of the season has been anything but ideal for several of the world’s speed stars in the alpine circus.

Kilde and several others have continued to run speed competitions this winter. So far, seven speed races have been canceled this season. It has happened due to poor weather prospects and conditions, most recently during the World Cup weekend in Beaver Creek.

– It’s incredibly crazy, says Kilde about the cancellations to Dagbladet.

Boyfriend Christmas

The next opportunity for the Norwegian awaits in the Italian Val Gardena on 14 December.

He will also stay there during parts of the run-up to Christmas. The family is scheduled to visit the Norwegian in northern Italy, where they will stay until 22 December, according to the star herself.

– Then I will be with Mikaela in Innsbruck, before I travel on to Bormio on 25 December, he says.

This will be the second Christmas he and alpine star Mikaela Shiffrin celebrate together since the relationship was confirmed in the summer of 2021.

– It will be just the two of us. It is very nice to spend quality time together. Now we haven’t seen each other for a long time, so it will be nice. We get to buy good food and enjoy ourselves, so it will all become ours over time, says the 31-year-old about the Christmas plans.

As mentioned, Kilde quickly moves on to the World Cup weekend in Bormio in northern Italy. Alpinesset describes the Christmas days with near and dear ones as important in a hectic season.

– It is very important. I live in Innsbruck where there are few family and friends, so there are days I take great care of. When it starts again, I’ll be on until it’s finished and it won’t be until March. It’s nice to have a little breather in the middle of the season, he says.

– A place I like very much

When the alpine circus travels to Val Gardena next weekend, Kilde hopes to run his first official World Cup race of the season.

– You get a little impatient, but that is “part of the game”. In Beaver Creek we had done training and were ready for competition, then no. It was bitter.

Nevertheless, Kilde points out that things turned around quickly and that much will be forgotten if you first get started in Val Gardena – a place he has won five times previously.

– It is a place I like very much and have very good experiences there. It will be good to start the season and get a confirmation if the speed is still there. It will be a little different to have the first start in Val Gardena. It has never been before. It will be new for everyone. We’ll see how it goes, says the alpine star.
