Alpine F1 Team “Only 0.1 seconds lost to rivals in terms of engine”[F1-Gate.com]

The Alpine F1 Team has responded to reports that Renault’s current F1 powertrain will not allow it to become a leader by 2026.

The development of the current F1 power unit has been ‘frozen’ and combined with Fernando Alonso’s complaints about reliability this year, the Alpine F1 Team has all but topped out with fourth place in the championship until the new regulations on F1 engines will not be issued in 2026. Some people think that is the result

“First we have to make sure that the problem doesn’t happen again,” Bruno Famin, executive director of Viry Chatillon’s Renault F1 engine division, told Auto Motor und Sport.

“Then we will mainly move on to developing the 2026 engine, which we have already been working on for months.”

Bruno Famin says Renault is not directly responsible for all of this year’s reliability problems.

“We also had problems with parts from our suppliers,” said Bruno Famin.

“But it doesn’t matter. We have a responsibility to check everything and make sure the engine is reliable.”

Bruno Famin says he doesn’t regret the focus on improving performance before the freeze was fully implemented before 2022.

“We took a lot of risks,” said Bruno Famin.

“We tried to make the engine as light as possible.”

As a result, the performance of Renault’s F1 power unit in 2022 has definitely improved and the power deficit compared to Ferrari, Mercedes and Honda has been reduced to a manageable level.
Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi says “motor loss is 0.1 seconds, maximum is 0.2 seconds.”

Bruno Famín said: “There is no real scope to squeeze more power out of the regulations.

“And behind the increased reliability there is often an increase in performance. For example, if you strengthen the piston rings, you can push the detonation limit[del motore].”
