Alpine, having learned of the departure of Fernando Alonso, the latter had formalized the arrival of Oscar Piastri as a replacement. However, the latter announced on Twitter that he will not ride for the French firm in 2023.
While everything seemed to be working perfectly at Alpine, the French team is facing a situation never seen before. Indeed, after announcing the arrival in 2023 of Oscar Piastri in his ranks, the Australian managed by Mark Webber, officially declared that he will not join the blues in 2023.
Initially Alpine had announced this on its networks:
“After four years with the Renault and Alpine family, reserve driver Oscar Piastri is promoted alongside Esteban Ocon from 2023.”

But in a second step, the Australian pilot denied the information by writing this on his Twitter account:
“I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 issued a press release at the end of the afternoon stating that I will be driving for them next year. This is false and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I won’t be driving for Alpine next year.”

It would therefore seem that Oscar Piastri has indeed found another agreement in another team. There are rumors that Alpine’s reserve driver will be sent to McLaren to replace Daniel Ricciardo.
