The FIA issued a statement on Sunday morning about an ongoing investigation into AlphaTauri. The team may have gotten into trouble after they wanted to replace Pierre Gasly’s engine in its entirety.
“Last night we were asked by AlphaTauri if they could replace all engine parts of the # 10 car. We agreed to that at 6:55 pm,” the FIA statement read.
“AlphaTauri started to disassemble the car and the car was on the stand overnight. However, this morning the team decided to withdraw the request, making it plausible that it was a strategic choice and not an emergency choice. born.”
However, “What is important in this matter is that the car was already taken so far apart that it is impossible for regulators to determine if changes were not made when reinstalling the original parts.”
Modification of the car is prohibited under parc fermé rules and due to the somewhat remarkable move of the team, it is now impossible to determine whether the car has actually been returned to its original state. Therefore, the last line reads, the matter is brought to the attention of the stewards.
Update: A representative of the team must report to the FIA at 09:00 CET.
