During Alpharad’s Twitch Plays Pokemon marathon, his chat spawned a shiny Pokemon while he slept.
Twitch Plays Pokemon was a massive internet phenomenon when it first launched in 2014. Live streaming had yet to become the titanic industry it is today, but that didn’t stop millions of gamers from taking part.
Essentially, Twitch Plays Pokemon allows viewers to play the game that is broadcast by entering commands in chat. Typing “A”, “Right”, or “Home” acts like pressing those buttons. Think Zork but with thousands of people entering commands at the same time.
It took players a month to beat Pokemon Red the first time around, and now streamers are hosting their own Twitch Plays Pokemon marathons. Alpharad just kicked off their Twitch Plays Pokemon Crystal marathon, and it’s already off to a terrific start.

Alpharad chat find Shiny Pokémon
On April 7, Alpharad started his marathon, but it quickly became clear that it would not go as well as he thought. It took over four hours to beat the first gym leader, a task that takes much less time during a normal match.
At the end of the night, Alpharad went to sleep as his chat continued to play without him. During this time, the chat acquired an egg and paced back and forth long enough for it to hatch.
Miraculously, at 18 hours and 25 minutes, the egg hatched a Shiny Cleffa. While not a full Shiny, Alpharad woke up to a shock.
The egg in question is a unique gift item called the Odd Egg. It has a 10% to 50% chance of containing a Shiny Pokémon. The odds of finding a shiny in Crystal are 8196/1, but this specific egg drastically increases those odds.

Now, it comes down to whether or not Alpharad can keep the Shiny Pokemon going during the marathon. It is possible for your chat to navigate through the menus and release the Shiny, either by accident or on purpose.
One of the biggest debacles during the original Twitch Plays Pokemon is known as Bloody Sunday. This was the day chaters released three main Pokémon, two meeting the HM Cut.
