Alphabet Inc. CEO Sundar Pichai has received a pay package of $226m in 2022, making him one of the highest-paid corporate leaders in the world. This was driven by a stock award of $218m. Despite navigating a more competitive industry with the emergence of AI products, Pichai’s three-year stock awards, with a similarly sized package in 2019, have kept him ahead of other executives at Alphabet. While the company was hit by a broader tech slowdown in 2022 that resulted in shares dropping 39%, they mounted a comeback in 2023, rising 19%. Pichai’s total compensation package was 808 times the median total compensation for Alphabet employees, which was $279,802 in 2022. As part of his compensation package, Alphabet spent $5.94m on personal security for Pichai. CEO compensation has been a touchy topic in the technology industry, but Pichai’s package puts him at the top of the list.
