For the Astra-Zeneca vaccine in Italy there are signs of a change in the age recommendation. Italy’s scientific committee CTS, which advises the government on how to deal with the pandemic, is examining the possibility of only injecting the Anglo-Swedish company’s corona vaccine into people over the age of 60 in the future. Doubts about the safety of the vaccine for younger people are mounting among experts after an 18-year-old woman from Genoa died of complications from a thrombosis on Tuesday, days after she was immunized with the Astra-Zeneca vaccine. On May 25, the woman took part in an “Open Day” during vaccination, during which younger people over 18 years of age are also vaccinated.
The Genoa public prosecutor’s office is investigating four deaths due to suspected side effects of vaccines. On Tuesday, a 34-year-old woman was admitted to the intensive care unit at Genoa Hospital for severe side effects and had to undergo emergency surgery after being immunized with the Astra-Zeneca vaccine.
As reports of side effects pile up, the Sicily region decided that the Astra-Zeneca vaccine would only be given to people over the age of 60. Younger people who have already been immunized with a dose of AstraZeneca should receive Pfizer or Moderna as a second dose.
“The Astra Zeneca vaccine can cause symptoms of thrombosis, which is accompanied by a decrease in blood platelets. This is precisely why there was a recommendation for preferential use of the vaccine in people over 60 years of age. Now the epidemiological scenario has changed. Thanks to the vaccination, we are now We are in a more favorable phase. AstraZeneca will soon be judged, and no one should assume that security alarms are being underestimated, “said CTS coordinator Franco Locatelli in an interview with RAI 1 on Thursday evening. According to State Secretary for Health Pierpaolo Sileri, the Astra Zeneca vaccine should not be given to people under 30 years of age. “I would particularly not recommend Astra Zeneca to women under 50 years of age. The doubts arise all the more from the fact that the spread and weekly incidence of the virus have now fallen sharply,” said Sileri.
