Alpha Tauri F1, 2023 “AT04” will reduce the purchase of parts from Red Bull[F1-Gate.com]

Jonathan Eddles, trackside technical director of Scuderia Aufa Tauri, says the 2023 F1 car “AT03” will purchase fewer Red Bull-designed parts.

All F1 teams are required to design and build their own monocoque, nose cones, wings, wheel drums, etc. but F1 regulations allow them to purchase a limited number of parts from other F1 teams (transferable components).

Many small F1 teams have taken advantage of this, with Haas purchasing many parts from the Red Bull-owned Ferrari and AlphaTauri powertrain supplier purchasing parts from the senior Red Bull Racing team.

Jonathan Addles says AlphaTauri will continue to purchase Red Bull-designed parts for next year’s car, the AT04, but won’t use as many as this season.

“We are actually planning a few more parts for next year,” Eddles told the media, including RaceFans.

“Because the way Red Bull works, the lead times and production capacity are phenomenal. They can develop everything at the last minute, which is great.”

“But for us, of course, we want to develop aerodynamics around some aspects that we are currently blocking on. For example, some of the components whose final designs were only known by the end of the year. If adopted, it could affect the aerodynamics. “

“Of course we can save weight by running the car now and knowing the operating window for next year. We know more about how these cars work, tires and regulations. So there are a lot of things you can do.”
