The particularly contagious coronavirus variant B.1.617.2, which was first discovered in India, is now called Delta. The World Health Organization (WHO) has decided to name the individual variants according to the Greek alphabet, as it announced on Monday evening. This is to avoid that countries or regions are associated with certain virus variants and that people who live there or come from there are discriminated against.
