Formula 1’s only female steward, Spain’s Silvia Bellot, was harassed on social networks when Fernando Alonso was fined in Austin – she was among the stewards there.
Upon learning of this, Alonso and his team defended Silvia, saying that such an attitude is unacceptable.
Fernando Alonso: “I strongly contain the hate speech on the Internet against FIA Silvia Bellot Silvia Bellot.
Such hatred is unacceptable in sport and in society. It is particularly unfortunate that these comments are directed against one of the female volunteers and officials of our sport.
I will continue to support the FIA and Formula 1 in the fight against such violations and harassment and I will encourage everyone else to do the same. “
“We were disappointed to hear of the inappropriate comments against the FIA’s Sylvia Bellot Sylvia Bellot. There is no place in our sport for any form of insults, we condemn such behavior, ”wrote the Alpine team on social media.
