Alonso alludes to F1 return: ‘Wants to race in the top for a few more years’ | NOW

Fernando Alonso wants to be a high-level motorsport driver for the next two or three years. The 38-year-old is associated with Renault’s Formula 1 team, where he will succeed Daniel Ricciardo in 2021.

“I will be in good shape for at least two or three years and my ambition is sky high. I would like to be at the top of motorsport. That could be a return to Formula 1, but also the WEC (long-distance racing, ed.) Or the IndyCar, “said Alonso on Monday at the opening of the Real Madrid University School.

As an honorary member of the Spanish football club, the driver was allowed to open the university via a video connection. There he first responded to rumors of a possible return to the royal class.

On Monday, Alonso’s advisor Flavio Briatore already reported that the driver is “very motivated” to return to Formula 1. Alonso took his only two world titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006.

Alonso wants to return to Dakar Rally in the future

Alonso said goodbye to Formula 1 at the end of 2018, after which he focused on various other racing categories. For example, he participated in the Dakar Rally in January.

“I did not know beforehand how it would go, but I really enjoyed it. In the future I will certainly drive the Dakar Rally more often,” said the Spaniard.

“But in the coming years I want to focus on one of the highest categories. I am 100 percent ready.”
