The behind the scenes of “Lupine: Part 2”

The French series Lupin came to Netflix with a new batch of chapters. The production remained among the most watched fictions as soon as it was released and promises similar success in this return.

The story is fascinating. Its protagonist, Assene Diop, knows the injustices of life and the prejudices of society. But in the face of so much adversity and with a little luck, he reinvents himself and achieves what he wants. He is a lovable thief who steals from those who were cruel to him, so the viewer justifies him in a certain way. Because he is a funny, sagacious, charismatic character. Lupine is France, it is the Eiffel Tower and the Champs Elysee avenue, the Sacre Coeur dome in the background, the La Opera building and the Latin quarter in the central frame.

It could also be defined as a series of action, suspense with witty dialogues and intelligent resolutions before the different mysteries that arise in the plot. The life of Assene Diop, a son of immigrants in France these days, is the trigger to tell this story that is mixed with that of the character in literature Arsène Lupin from Maurice Leblanc from 1923.

Trailer of the second season of “Lupine”

The first 5 episodes of this series, starring masterfully by Omar Sy, generated incredible acceptance around the world when it debuted on the platform. The second part consists of another five chapters that complete the story that was left open in the previous round.

What happened to Raoul, Diop’s son, and where did they take him? This seems to be the first thing Diop will have to solve. But the mysteries and adventures add up and they catch us again in the setting of one of the most beautiful cities on the planet: Paris. The catacombs, the banks of the Seine, the Musée d’Orsay, the subway … all this contributes to creating the framework behind Lupin.

Despite being a series of investigations and persecutions, this story is also about the legacies of a father to a son and the importance of being respected. As part of the recent premiere of the second part, Teleshow exclusively interviewed Omar Sy, the protagonist who gives life to Lupine, who reflected on the success of this production that will have a third part.

-Why do you think that Lupin became a hit around the world?

“I really don’t know, it’s always very difficult to find the answer.” I think the best thing I can do for myself is rejoice at the success of the show and thank the fans. It is so incredible that Lupin it has been so successful, we are super happy and grateful. And we will try to do our best for next season.

“Do you think Lupine is the French James Bond?”

-If it is. Of course

-Why?

“Because when you think of James Bond, you can say that he is the English you know best, right?” So Lupine is the French we know best. That is the explanation. He’s resourceful, smart, athlete, the best fighter, the best everything then, that’s why. (Laughs)

Omar Sy is a recognized and respected actor in France. He was the protagonist of one of the highest grossing films in his country called Untouchable friends (Untouchables, 2011) which had its version in Argentina with Oscar Martinez Y Rodrigo de la Serna. Sy is part of the offspring of immigrants from Africa and former French colonies. With his meter ninety in height, Omar is the son of a couple of Mauritanian and Senegalese origin, and has been married since 2007 to Helene. Together they have five children and the Sy family is moving according to Omar’s work, whom we will soon see in the new installment of Jurassic World 3.

Lupin It is also a story about racism and discrimination. How do you feel about this problem and how do you see this situation in France?

—That is a situation that we know exists and we only wanted to reflect some things from our experience and that we know happen in our country. But at the same time, we had in mind that the purpose of a television series was to entertain. So we wanted to entertain but at the same time put some uses and customs that describe Paris and France as they are. We did it by using all those aspects of our society to help tell our story. Because it is not that we said “okay, this happens, this and that”. No. We said “this is what is happening, so let’s make our characters use it to do what they have to do.” I think it was a good way to talk about it because we didn’t want to put ourselves in the role of judges.

“If you could travel back in time and find yourself being a little boy, what advice would you give yourself?”

-Read more. Because I started reading very late, I became interested in reading very late and maybe if I could change something, that would be it.

“Is it true that you pasted the posters of Lupin in the subway as an advertisement?

—- (Laughter) Yes, it’s true

“And how was that experience?”

—It was very very interesting because that’s how we talked before. In the series we talked about certain people who are not registered or are only judged by how they look or how they dress and we wanted to really experience it. So it was interesting to see how many people did not recognize me and we observed what their faces and looks were. And there was really nothing inside of them, they had no reaction. We knew previously that it was going to happen but it was a hard and rough experience that turned out to be very interesting.
