The delivery service giant Lieferando has significantly increased delivery fees in many German cities, including Leipzig.
Leipzig – For many restaurateurs, these are the only ways during which Corona-pandemic to survive: pick-up and delivery service. Many of them use the Lieferando ordering platform for this. Now the company has increased delivery charges in many German cities – including in Leipzig.

As the LVZ reported that the prices in the trade fair city were in some cases doubled. If you order your meal in a restaurant that does not have its own delivery service, you no longer pay 1.50 euros, but 2.90 euros.
According to the information, the online provider justified this with rising logistics costs and increased hourly wages for couriers. Accordingly, the earlier costs were rather cheap compared to other providers.
Of course, these prices only apply to restaurateurs who have their dishes delivered by Lieferando drivers. Those who only use the service as an ordering system but deliver the dishes themselves can still set their own delivery fees.

Many restaurants in Leipzig even offer their own delivery service free of charge.

The use of Lieferando bicycle couriers is also expensive for restaurateurs. The subsidiary of the Dutch company Just Eat Takeaway retains a 30 percent commission.
Perhaps that is precisely why one or the other restaurant has stopped their delivery service again. A store has to run really well for it to be worthwhile.
Alternatively, many still offer the option of self-collection, which is all the more important now that the outdoor dining areas are not allowed to open on March 22nd due to the renewed increase in the number of infections in Saxony.
