The calculations only include accommodations that offer at least five beds. This means that professional parties who advertise on Airbnb are included, but private individuals who rent out a room or apartment with less than five beds are not.
Especially in North Holland significantly fewer tourists came. In Amsterdam, there was a 92 percent decline in the number of guests in the second quarter and in the entire province of Noord-Holland the decrease was 83 percent.
The cities of Utrecht, Maastricht and Rotterdam also received far fewer tourists. Of the provinces, the decrease was smallest in Friesland (53 percent).
Season
Holiday parks and camping areas suffered slightly less than hotels and cottage estates, as their season started later, namely at the end of April. Yet they also received around 60 percent fewer guests.
It is mainly foreign guests, especially from outside Europe, who have stayed away. Due to worldwide travel restrictions, they often stayed at home or went on vacation closer to home. The tourists who did come mainly came from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands itself.
