Electric car owners are familiar with the problem: Not all drivers of conventional cars observe the parking bans that usually apply to them at charging stations. This can happen out of inattentiveness or on purpose – Tesla’s supercharger spaces have already been blocked by aggressive pickup drivers. In the USA, this is said to be ICE-ing, derived from the abbreviation for internal combustion engine. And a modern supercharger in Las Vegas has now been hit by a storm.
Tesla minority on Supercharger
A Tesla driver reported this on the Reddit platform earlier this week. “Supercharger Vegas has become a cremation parking lot. Unlike most other superchargers, it is not located outside on a trunk road, but right at the beginning of the famous casino strip in the player city. In fact, the photo shows that many of the charging slots there are occupied – but only one of a Tesla (possibly two – a car in the background is not clearly visible).
Otherwise there is what other Americans drive – a Dodge, a compact SUV, two pickups, two limousines from Germany, but of course none of these with an inserted cable. The places are also tempting: not only centrally located, but also covered with solar carports, so pleasantly shady in hot Las Vegas. The fact that the combustion drivers were actually looking for shade can also be seen from the fact that further superchargers without a roof can be seen further back – and there is neither a Tesla nor another car.
Location, shade – and loading with 250kW
Probably because of its attractive location, a barrier normally blocks the access to the Supercharger site. In Germany, Tesla also does this occasionally – the barrier opens after entering a pin that is displayed on the screen in the car. In Las Vegas, however, it was recently dismantled, as reported on Reddit. This was probably due to the corona restrictions, which significantly reduced the flow to the strip, as far as it was allowed.
The image of the many blocked superchargers may currently cause displeasure among some Tesla drivers, but there is actually no reason for that. Because there are still several loading spaces available – if necessary, all uncovered. On Thursday, however, the pleasure in Las Vegas will be reopened, a Reddit writer reminded, and he hoped that the barrier would be back by then. If not, that would be three times annoying for the Tesla drivers there: The Supercharger not only impresses with its strip location and shade, but also recently with the fast V3 technology for stores with up to 250 kilowatts of power.
