Almost no police operations at the turn of the year

This New Year’s Eve will be remembered by many people “as extremely calm,” said Kathrin Thamm, press spokeswoman for the Lower Franconia police.

The authority writes of deserted streets, so there were no large crowds. There were around 180 missions, significantly fewer than in previous years. For comparison: there were 314 police operations in 2019 and a total of 317 police operations in 2018 around the turn of the year. 43 disturbances of the peace and “only two offenses against bodily harm and so far no reported property damage” were also registered, according to Thamm. The number of these crimes is as low as rarely on a New Year’s Eve. According to the police headquarters, there were five traffic accidents and one person was slightly injured.

220 violations in Lower Franconia

A total of around 220 violations of the Bavarian Infection Protection Measures Ordinance were found in all of Lower Franconia: 30 times, for example, the mouth and nose protection was missing and around 115 reports were made for violations of the contact restrictions. In Mömbris-Mensengesäß (Aschaffenburg district), the police took into custody a bar owner who was serving drinks in his restaurant. He and his guests have to face a fine procedure.

99 violations in Wertheim

A similarly quiet New Year’s Eve situation emerged in the area of responsibility of the Heilbronn Police Headquarters, which also includes Wertheim (Main-Tauber district). There were 99 corona violations, followed by 53 reports, 46 disturbances of the peace and 23 traffic accidents. In the Wertheim area there were 9 violations of the Corona restrictions and 3 reports, no accidents and no fires.

More emergency calls in Heilbronn

The operations center recorded an accumulation of emergency calls in the first half an hour of the new year: Citizens complained about firing firecrackers and rockets, “but this was allowed on private property,” Gerald Olma, head of the Heilbronn police press office, told the editorial team. It was an “absolutely quiet New Year’s Eve”.

The police headquarters in Southeast Hesse reports for the Offenbach and Main-Kinzig districts “only violations in the middle double-digit range of the corona-related exit restrictions”. The South Hesse police – responsible, among other things, for the Darmstadt-Dieburg district – reports that they have counted 125 violations of the restrictions. In 18 cases, fireworks were set off in high-public places or in public spaces, and in 24 cases alcohol was consumed in public spaces.

“Negative record” at Wehr

The fire brigade in the Aschaffenburg district even reported a “negative record”: “The emergency services did not have to go out for a single New Year’s Eve mission,” reports the service. The fire brigade from the Darmstadt-Dieburg district reported something similar, the Hanauer Wehr made clear: Even at the quietest turn of the year in recent decades – the millennium 1999/2000 – they were alerted more often. As a rule, there are 15 to 30 assignments on New Year’s Eve.
