Almost half of shopping centers expect changes in the sales network

The most affected in this direction is gastronomy, where changes are expected by up to 80 percent of tenants. A quarter of retailers expect the expansion to be suspended, and 19 percent of retailers expect to reduce the cost of equipping sales units. This follows from a survey by the real estate consulting company CBRE.

Four percent of tenants recorded the conclusion of a deal or the termination of a lease agreement. It mainly concerned gastronomy, fashion, footwear and accessories. 75 percent of traders expect their business to return to pre-crisis condition next year. Roughly the same percentage of respondents are not planning to change market or supply chain diversification.

CBRE survey

It took place between June 25 and July 24.

It was attended by 64 retail tenants of shopping centers in the Czech Republic.

The majority were sellers of fashion, footwear, accessories and cosmetics.

Marketers now want to invest in brick-and-mortar stores, develop online tools and use social networks. “For units over 500 square meters – up to 50 percent of respondents expect an increase in the share of online sales,” said Klára Bejblová, head of retail sector research at CBRE. Electricity sellers expect the largest increase, up to 40 percent of them. 70 percent of retailers consider digital channels to be an ideal complement to brick-and-mortar stores. 11 percent of retailers have the Internet as their main sales channel.

To prevent the spread of coronavirus, most malls were closed from 14 March to 10 May.
