Almost half a million AstraZeneca vaccines donated by Spain arrive in Nicaragua

Nicaragua received this Sunday, September 26, a new batch of 499,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, donated by Spain. This is the fourth donation made by the European country to Nicaragua, delivering a total of 1,130,020 doses.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is the one that is being applied in the country to people in the age range of 30 years and over. This process began on September 20 and the population has overflowed, lining up for a day before vaccination is due in the indicated positions to ensure a quota.

With the total amount, Spain is positioned as the first donor of vaccines in Nicaragua. «They demonstrate, once again, Spain’s commitment to the health and well-being of the Nicaraguan people. And they follow strictly epidemiological criteria endorsed by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), as is the case with donations to other countries in the region, “the Spanish Embassy explained in a statement.

Similarly, he said that “the distribution of the doses through Covax with logistical support from PAHO will begin soon.”

Covax is the mechanism co-led by the Gavi Alliance for Vaccines (Gavi), the Coalition for the Promotion of Innovations for Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Its objective is to accelerate the development and manufacture of vaccines against covid-19 and guarantee fair and equitable access to them for all countries of the world.

This Sunday more Astrazeneca vaccines donated by Spain arrived in Nicaragua.

These donations are part of Spain’s effort to provide a joint multilateral response to the pandemic, which has particularly hit the Latin American and Caribbean region, with which Spain maintains close historical and cooperative ties.

The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced in April of this year, during the XXVII Ibero-American Summit he was celebrating in Andorra, a donation of at least 7.5 million vaccines for Latin American and Caribbean countries, which has been materializing since the month of August.
