ZONABANTEN.com – Vesta has two massive trough features that have long puzzled scientists, it doesn’t look like the mystery will be solved any time soon.
NASA visits Vesta in 2011 and 2012 with the Dawn spacecraft.
Among the features the spacecraft studied were two large troughs, one dubbed Divalia Fossae, that spanned more than half of the asteroid at its center.
And the other is called Saturnalia Fossae in the Northern Hemisphere of massive space rocks.
Scientists hope to solve the mystery of how these structures formed that will shed light on history Vesta, possibly other large bodies in the solar system.
“Vesta also on its way to becoming an Earth-like planet, but planet formation stopped early in the formation of our solar system,” said Christian Klimczak, a geologist at the University of Georgia and a recent co-author.
