Collect 8 Days (4/7) a store laksa named 543 Laksa became one of the viral sidewalk foods in April 2022 last. The store was lined up by dozens of customers for so long.

Even the owner, Thian Le Yong, admits that 75 portions of the laksa can be sold out in less than three hours. This laksa shop, located in the Bukit Panjang area, Singapore, made Thian so moved by his success.

“I cried a little bit when my business was going so well. I felt happy and touched,” said Thian.

Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, even tasted the laksa made by a 29-year-old youth. But when in June when tourism began to open, Thian actually suffered a drastic loss.

His homemade laksa instantly lost a buyer. More and more, Thian feels that a lot of losses have happened to his shop, even now it has touched 50%.

“Now my shop ends up only cooking a lot but not selling any servings. It makes me frustrated because no one comes to eat at my shop,” said Thian.

Thian even took a part-time job working at a bistro-bar. This was done to help restore his finances which had almost run out due to the loss of his laksa shop.

Thian actually admits that he finds it hard to close the shop laksa his property but if he continued he would lose even more because he had to buy materials and pay high rents. However, Thian still hopes that one day his laksa shop will be able to operate again one day.
