Twelve percent of the new Covid-19 cases confirmed in the federal government on Tuesday are in Hesse. This follows from the current data from the Robert Koch Institute. The increase of 1,349 new corona infections in Hesse is stronger than the proportion of the population of this state would suggest. This is eight percent. 1349 is the second highest reported value since the pandemic began in March.
In Frankfurt, the hotspot among the German metropolises, the infection rate is still at a very high level. The indicator that shows the new cases reported within a week with fewer than 100,000 inhabitants rose from almost 200 to over this mark overnight. The so-called seven-day incidence is now 202 and is just below the previous record of 205. According to the RKI, Frankfurt has reported 6,813 infections since March, after 6,658 at the beginning of the week. In order to be able to better monitor compliance with the corona rules, the city asked the federal police for help on Monday.
Aschaffenburg still under 50
The RKI shows an incidence value of 162 to 178 for Offenbach. The gap to the new information from the city can be explained by the fact that the Federal Institute double-checks the information from the individual municipalities and only then publishes the data. Either way, the neighboring city of Frankfurt also remains at the highest warning level according to the country’s escalation concept (see grafic). This now also applies to the whole of southern Hesse except for the Bergstrasse district. The state capital Wiesbaden has a good 147 new cases within a week with less than 100,000 inhabitants, Darmstadt almost 141 and the Main-Kinzig district with Hanau in the center 122.5. Mainz comes in at just under 103.
In the Main-Taunus-Kreis, kindergartens restrict access for parents and grandparents in view of the general increase in new infections. Only in the Werra-Meißner district is the incidence value below 50. This also applies to Aschaffenburg.
There are officially six more deaths in connection with the pandemic. According to the Federal Institute for Disease Control, known for short as the RKI, 617 of the 34,200 reported infected people have died as a result of Corona. At the beginning of the month, only a good 19,000 infections since March and 551 corona victims in Hesse were known. These numbers show the dynamics of the pandemic over the past few days.
Pleasing new high
But that also affects the group of those who have recovered. The RKI now assumes 22,600 people who have their Covid 19 infection behind them. That is 500 more than the day before. Previously, the number of people who had recovered had increased overnight, usually in steps of a hundred or two hundred. The fact that the increase is now picking up speed is due to the sharp increase in new infections since the beginning of October. An infection is over after a good two weeks. According to the RKI, those who do not receive medical care are listed among those who have recovered. The institute estimates their number; it is not officially raised. Mathematically, there are 37.2 recovered people for one corona victim, a new high.
