The number of coronavirus deaths in the US state of New York is rising steadily. As Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Thursday, 799 people died within one day as a result of an infection – the highest number reported to date. The day before, 779 people were killed, the day before 731. New York has so far recorded 7,067 coronavirus deaths.
At the same time, Cuomo emphasized that the number of patient admissions to hospitals is falling. The number of hospital patients increased by 200 net. “That’s the lowest number since this nightmare began.”
Cuomo attributed this primarily to the effectiveness of the exit restrictions. “They work better than everyone thought,” said the governor.
The infection curve is flattening out, but efforts to contain the virus should not slacken, warned the governor. “We can’t relax.” He appealed to the population to keep leaving the house as little as possible. But Cuomo also spoke of the cautious and gradual reopening of the economy.
New York is the focus of the pandemic in the United States. In the state with the metropolis of the same name, there are by far the most cases of infection and death. More than 430,000 infections and now more than 15,000 deaths have already been confirmed nationwide.
