Bad Nauheim (pm). Another successful »Vampire Day in the GZW«: With almost 80 registered donors – including District Administrator Jan Weckler and District Council Chairman Armin Häuser – the third blood donation campaign of the regional hospital association of the Wetterau Health Center (GZW) was the most successful to date. In the foyer of the specialist and service center, where the blood donation team at the University Clinic Gießen-Marburg (UKGM) had set up various registration and examination stations as well as the donation room, »Vampire Decoration« again provided a stylish look.
At the end of the day, three quarters of the average daily blood reserve requirement of the UKGM was covered. The organizers were satisfied and are already looking forward to the next campaign in June.
Conserved blood save human lives: after accidents or during operations, patients depend on enough people having been willing to donate their blood beforehand. At some times of the year donors are scarce, and the corona pandemic has also had a detrimental effect for a year. Against this background the GZW decided to help and organized the first »› Vampire Days ‹at the GZW« in cooperation with the blood donation team of the UKGM in September and December.
At the most recent appointment, the first people to register visited the individual examination stations punctually at 11 a.m., and District Administrator Weckler arrived half an hour later and wanted to set a good example as a blood donor for the third time. With the district council chairman Armin Hauser, who registered for 12 noon together with his wife Heike, the district administrator agreed that the blood donation campaign was a very good thing overall: »The medical care in Germany is excellent, but some things such as blood, cannot be replaced. Here, medicine is still dependent on the help of as many people as possible, «said Weckler.
At the end of the day, GZW managing director Dr. Dirk M. Fellermann the blood donation team of the UKGM for the smooth cooperation as well as the numerous donors from the circles of the GZW employees and from outside. “The action was a complete success and will take place next in June,” he said.
Instead of catering, there was a corona-related bag that contained drinks, fruit and muesli bars. In addition, each donor was allowed to pick up a “street dog” or soup from the “food trailer” in front of the medical specialist center.
