The number of sick leaves in Vienna continues to rise. In the 41st calendar week, over 76,000 sick leaves were recorded by the ÖGK. Experts are sounding the alarm.

The weather is becoming more autumnal, temperatures are falling and sick leave is increasing. In Vienna, 74,928 sick leaves were recorded by the ÖGK in the 40th calendar week. In the 41st calendar week there were 76,962 sick leaves. For comparison: In 2023, 76,400 sick leaves were reported in the 41st calendar week, as statistics from the ÖGK show. Across Austria, a total of 289,309 sick leaves were reported to the ÖGK in calendar week 41.

“Danger increases”
“As the number of sick days continues to increase, the risk of contracting influenza or Covid-19 increases. People who belong to the risk groups in particular should therefore protect themselves optimally! Take advantage of the opportunity to receive a free vaccination against influenza and Covid-19,” emphasizes dr. Andreas KrauterChief Physician at the Austrian Health Insurance Fund. He also reminds that measures such as regular hand washing and disinfection reduce the risk of infection.
