Baden-Württemberg wants to donate almost 700 ventilators to Ukraine. This corona emergency reserve is no longer necessary here.
Around 700 ventilators from Baden-Württemberg are to be donated to Ukraine. The state government of the Greens and CDU decided this on Tuesday, wrote the Südwestrundfunk (SWR). The Ministry of Social Affairs in Stuttgart confirmed the report by the German Press Agency in the evening.
The devices therefore still come from corona emergency reserves and are no longer needed in the clinics in the south-west. In Ukraine, on the other hand, the ventilators are urgently needed, a spokesman for the Ministry of Social Affairs told the broadcaster. Now only the finance committee had to agree, and the devices would have to be checked again.
683 ventilators are to be delivered to Ukraine
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ukrainian government had asked Germany for ventilators. The ministry bought around 1,500 ventilators around three years ago at the beginning of the corona pandemic.
The procurement value of the 683 devices that are to go to Ukraine was more than 19 million euros in spring 2020, according to the ministry spokesman. However, the market value is much lower today. Several hundred ventilators were donated to Ukraine last year.
