Almost 600 nominations for Opus Klassik 2021

Berlin (MH) – Almost 600 artists and productions have been nominated for Opus Klassik 2021. That was around 25 percent more than in the previous year, announced the Association for the Promotion of Classical Music on Wednesday in Berlin. The record number and quality of the submissions illustrate how passionate and creative the artists were “in a year full of hardships and challenges,” said CEO Clemens Trautmann.

The artists never lost contact with their audiences through their projects. For the “restart of cultural life” there is a special category for public and participation initiatives this year. The nominated projects include “Voices” (Max Richter), “Music Lab – join the sound” (Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen), “100 for 100” of the Mozart Festival in Würzburg or the “Musical Vaccination Plaster in the Corona Vaccination Center” (MUK New horizons / music @ cetera).

In the race for the classical opus are also artists like Igor Levit, Sonya Yoncheva, Lang Lang, Hilary Hahn, Fatma Said, Piotr Beczala, Andrea Battistoni, Nikola Djoric, Fazil Say and ensembles like the Ensemble Colorito, Quatuor Ébène or the Gaechinger Cantorey. The winners in 25 categories will be announced in early autumn after the jury’s decision. The award ceremony as part of a television gala will take place on October 10th in the Konzerthaus Berlin.

The Opus Klassik music prize was launched in 2018 by record labels, publishers and concert promoters who have joined forces to form the Association for the Promotion of Classical Music. Before that, there was the Echo Klassik for 25 years, which was awarded by the Federal Association of the Music Industry (BVMI).
