Almost 60 Thousand People in China Died Due to COVID in One Month

Jakarta

China reports nearly 60,000 related deaths Corona (COVID-19) within a month. It is the first largest number released by authorities since Beijing eased restrictions on activities in early December.

Reported by AFP, Sunday (15/1/2023) the report was issued on Saturday (14/1) local time. The government has been accused of not reporting the number of deaths from the Corona virus since the relaxation of activities.

Only a dozen deaths were officially recorded in December before the 60,000 announcement was issued on Saturday, despite evidence that crematoriums and hospitals were overrun. A National Health Commission (NHC) official said on Saturday that China had recorded 59,938 coronavirus-related deaths between December 8 and January 12, 2022. The figure only refers to deaths in medical facilities, with the total number likely to be higher.

head of the NHC Medical Administration Bureau, Jiao Yahui at a press conference said the data included 5,503 deaths caused by direct respiratory failure due to the virus, and 54,435 deaths caused by underlying conditions combined with Corona.

Beijing revised its methodology for categorizing coronavirus deaths last month, saying it would only count those who had died from respiratory failure caused by the virus. This was criticized by the World Health Organization, which called the definition “too narrow”.
