Almost 3,000 people have been vaccinated against the flu in the first 14 days of the campaign – El Faro de Melilla

The 2024-2025 flu vaccination campaign has started at a good pace in the health centers of the National Institute of Health Management (Ingesa) in Melilla because, in the first 14 working days since it started, 2,908 people have been vaccinated, which is means reaching almost 52% of the total doses given in the previous year’s campaign (5,583) in this period.

This figure was achieved thanks to the strategies implemented in the Primary Care Area with community awareness, by strengthening the information campaigns about the importance of vaccination, creating in the those first days of special vaccination consultation regardless of the vaccine in their own nursing. offices, as well as home care. Likewise, we must also emphasize the collaboration of the Primary Care Support Units (Women’s Care Unit and Mental Health Unit) who also vaccinate in their own units.

Personal

Ingesa sincerely thanks all the workers who were involved in the seasonal flu vaccination process. The work of health workers is not limited to administering vaccines; Their daily commitment has been necessary to raise information and awareness among the population about the benefits of vaccination. Thanks to their work, an environment of trust was created that allowed many people to access the vaccine, thus protecting not only their health, but also the health of the entire community.

The campaign

Users of the public health service of Melilla aged sixty or older who have not received the flu and Covid vaccine can still go to their health centers to give it.

The vaccination campaign for the 2024-2025 season is combined for both influenza and covid-19. The Public Health Commission of the National Health System has recommended that people who are at greater risk of infection or suffering from the flu or severe Covid-19 should be vaccinated with vaccines that are adapted to are circulation lines.

The Inter-Country Council of the National Health System has agreed on the population groups that must be vaccinated against the flu and covid in the 2024/2025 season. These groups are as follows:

• Influenza and covid: people over 60 years old, pregnant women in any trimester of pregnancy, people from 6 months who are at risk of complications and risk groups; people aged 5 years or older in disability centers and nursing homes, as well as other long-term institutionalized people and residents in closed institutions, people who live with those who have a high level of immunity, and workers in health and social institutions and institutions.

• Influenza only: smokers, children from 6 to 59 months old, people with celiac disease, cochlear implant, long-term treatment with acetylsalicylic acid, cerebrospinal fluid fistula, trained workers in health care centers and social, and day care and early childhood education workers.

Regarding vaccination coverage, the objective set by the Ministry of Health and the Autonomous Communities for the 2024/2025 season is 75% in people over 65 years of age and health workers and higher than 60% in women who pregnancy and people in risk situations.

Anyone who belongs to these groups or is older than 60 and has not received the vaccine so far can make an appointment for the flu and covid vaccine at their health center. You can also choose, as in previous years, to get vaccinated at the Nurse’s office by appointment. If you are at the health center for any care other than the vaccination campaign, you can ask for information about the vaccine and the appointment and/or administration will be made easier.

For this campaign, Ingesa has allocated a special device in all health centers in each Nursing consultation with the standard schedule and appointments. Likewise, the Women’s Care Unit will proceed to vaccinate their clients, as well as the Mental Health Unit proceeding in the same direction. In addition, nursing professionals will vaccinate the homes of immobile people belonging to their quotas who will, regularly, visit to carry out inspections and follow-up work throughout the year.
