The Twente gang leader Simo D. was sentenced to 26 years and 8 months in prison on Wednesday. According to the court in Almelo, it has been established that in 2017 he ordered liquidations and arson. D. managed to organize the attacks from prison in Germany. He was imprisoned there because of a conviction in a drug case.
The 42-year-old D. received the maximum prison sentence because he ordered the burning of a hairdressing salon in Enschede. He was also behind a failed liquidation attempt in Gronau, Germany, and an attack on the home of an elderly woman in Almelo.
The Public Prosecution Service called it a miracle that there were no deaths in the attacks.
Marcus T. was sentenced to ten years in prison. D.’s 35-year-old right-hand man was only convicted for his role in the attempted liquidation of a man in Gronau. He had committed the violence on behalf of D., who is considered the mastermind. Together they must also pay the victim 60,000 euros in compensation.
According to the court, the “unconscionability” and “ruthlessness” of both men stood out. “The horrific nature of the acts have led to feelings of unrest and insecurity in society,” said the judge.
Justice demanded 26 years and 7 months in prison against both men in November.
‘Very worrying that attacks were organized from prison’
The court called it “very worrying that the client was able to organize the attacks from prison in Germany.”
Two brothers who were called in in all cases of violence have already been sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2019.
