Almost 100 doctors from the Suceava County Hospital signed a letter of support for the head of Oncology / She is being investigated for bribery in a continuous form after she asked for money from cancer patients / “Gifts could represent just a small gesture of Gratitude”

Almost 100 doctors out of a total of 252 working in the “St. Ioan cel Nou” Suceava directly supported Anca Dumitrovici Ababneh, head of the Oncology Section, who is under criminal investigation for taking bribes in a continuous form, reports The monitor of Suceava.

The judges of rights and liberties from the Suceava Court of Appeal, who ordered the replacement of the measure of preventive arrest with house arrest, concluded that “the concrete fact imputed to the defendant of having continuously received money and other products from patients and their relatives, on the occasion of medical consultations in the office of the Oncology department’s outpatient clinic, has a criminal character, meeting the typical elements of the crime of bribery in continuous form”.

The magistrates also showed that “attentions” to doctors are a common practice, despite the fact that the legislation prohibits this aspect.

On this line, the memorandum of support of Anca Dumitrovici Ababneh is written, a document submitted to the file and which is assumed by the signature of 95 doctors from the Emergency County Hospital “St. John the New” Suceava. In that letter it is stated that “any gifts from the patients, if indeed they exist, could only represent a small gesture of gratitude on their part, considering the effort and seriousness put into saving their lives. We do not believe that it can be a matter of taking bribes or receiving undue benefits”, the doctors note in the letter.

The magistrates of the Suceava Court of Appeal state, on the other hand, that any patient who offers money or gifts to doctors from the state medical system, in connection with the medical assistance received, exposes himself to criminal liability for the crime of bribery.
