The Provincial Brotherhood of Blood Donors arrived last Monday in Almodóvar del Campo once again, gathering in the first collective extraction of the year 2021 the solidarity of 90 people, and seven did so for the first time.
To attend his visit, which before the pandemic took place in the Health Center of the population and throughout the past year took place in other spaces such as the headquarters of the Real Madrid club or the Red Cross, the City Council provided the Sports Pavilion .
There, in a part of the sports court, four spacious areas were arranged for attention to the extraction protocol, with eight enabled stretchers; the area of prior medical check-up; the reception of donors; and waiting for a drink and a sandwich.
Around ten people, including nurses, doctors, administrators and auxiliary personnel, covered by the Brotherhood of Donors, with the support of the municipal worker and Ángel Morena who, together with Antonio Ruiz, coordinate the visits.
Morena said that “lately and despite the pandemic the Provincial Brotherhood is coming more often and last year they did it four times”, recalling that the previous one was on December 21 and that regularity is maintained.
Continued offering to which “the town of Almodóvar is responding as it has always done and, even, if possible, better than before with this health situation that we now have”, reaching 88 donations in the previous visit.
He also celebrated how in this line of correspondence by citizens, new donors are incorporated at each visit, something in his opinion “essential and fundamental if we take into account that donations stop when they turn 65”.
A continuous generational renewal has been taking place that “if it were not so, this would obviously end”, Ángel Morena abounds, who adds that over 130 can be the usual active donors, of a local community that reaches several hundred although many have already reached age limit or medical reasons prevent it.
This is the case of the mayor, José Lozano, who approached to verify with satisfaction the generosity of his fellow citizens, which he can no longer add after years of doing it from a young age.
The first mayor had only words of gratitude because, as he stressed, “there are many donors in Almodóvar who today show their solidarity, in this case with their blood,” showing eager that more young people join the cause.
Because, according to Lozano, “it is necessary and although we are in a pandemic, blood is still necessary in operations and for people who need it in other circumstances, so we can be proud of having such a supportive people.”
The mayor highlighted the coordination work such as the one carried out from Almodóvar del Campo, in the people of Morena and Ruiz for so many years now, “because it is also important and necessary as shown by the time that is dedicated in the previous days and then being here all afternoon ”.
The mayor was also grateful for the versatility of facilities such as the Pavilion, destined in this case to an extraction room, the Provincial Brotherhood of Blood Donors would have seen fit to make use of this municipal enclosure, putting at their disposal any other than the entity consider functional.
About three decades ago, since the start-up of the Health Center, there was no use of a municipal facility for extractions, since as Ángel Morena pointed out, who also thanked him for providing the Pavilion, “at the end of the 1980s and at the beginning of the 90’s hospitals came from Madrid and we did it in the plenary hall ”.
Health centers as a reference as the Hospital Clínico or the Gregorio Marañón “and two massive extractions were made”, which were also done on weekends and with which they could cover their blood banks in the face of the great need for those large surgical interventions. wingspan.
Finally, both Morena and Lozano agreed that they would soon be able to return to the Health Center, because that will be the best sign that the pandemic has been resolved for the benefit of all citizens.
