City officials said the situation was stabilizing, but violent resistance erupted from time to time.
Outbreaks of fierce resistance remain in Alma-Ata. This was stated by the deputy head of the city administration Yerzhan Babakumarov on the air of the TV channel Message 24.
“The militants are still putting up armed resistance. There is stabilization, but there are outbursts of fierce resistance,” Babakumarov said.
Earlier, the Sputnik Kazakhstan agency reported about battles in the suburb of Alma-Ata along the Alma-Ata-Bishkek highway in the vicinity of the village of Raiymbek. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan did not confirm this information.
Recall, on the evening of January 7 the military began to clean up the protest rally in Almaty. The authorities announced the elimination of 26 “criminals”.
Later, an eyewitness said that the Russian military opened fire on the protesters from armored personnel carriers with machine guns, and there were significantly more casualties than the authorities report.
