The sixth edition of the Almagro International Film Festival promises to be one of the most vibrant and significant, thanks to the recent distinction by the Film Academy as a collaborating festival of the Goya Awards, for which the filmmakers selected by the festival , from this year and onwards, they will be able to opt for the coveted statuette after passing through Almagro.
This milestone marks the first time that a festival in the province has achieved such consideration, placing itself on the circuit of the most prestigious festivals in Spain, such as Malaga or Sitges.
Faced with this challenging milestone, the organization has designed a program to match, with more than twenty short film programs, which will be screened, this year as a novelty, on weekends (Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays) in September at the Teatro Municipal, and having as a finishing touch the special events, on September 15 and 16 at the Hospital de San Juan.

Said programming includes the official competition, with 3 national selection programs and 2 international ones. A diverse selection, which contains humor, suspense, satire, animation and drama, and which will lead the viewer to go through all the emotions from their seat.
Pedro Casablanc, José Sacristán or Alba Flores are just some of the names of great exponents of the profession in our country present in the program and who promise a national section at the highest level. The International selection of short films from 14 countries constitutes a sample of works from different corners of the world, having received almost 700 applications for participation in this edition.
To decide the winners this year, the AIFF presents a panel of juries among which are such influential names as Nacho Carballo, current head of cinema and audiovisuals for the Community of Madrid and director of the Gijón International Film Festival for more than six years; Raquel Guerrero, actress and director well known for her participation in series such as “Machos Alfa”; Irene Pardo, director of the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival; Marios Psaras, Cultural Counselor at the Cyprus High Commission in London; Stéfano Sbrulli, producer at Mediaset Italia and Beatriz Hernández, current president of the national coordinator of the short film.
On September 3, 10 and 15, thanks to the Cypriot Ministry of Culture, and the Embassy of Cyprus in Spain, personified by His Excellency. Ambassador Helena Mina, and a whole team of Cypriot professionals who have collaborated, will carry out the activities designed to pay tribute to Cyprus and its cinema, as “Guest Country” in this Edition.
As part of these activities on September 3 and 10, at the Municipal Theater, you will be able to enjoy a selection of both fiction, animation, documentary and experimental short films from the most important Festivals of the guest country: ISFFC (International Short Film Festival of Cyprus) and ANIMAFEST.

Already on September 15, at the Hospital de San Juan, the AIFF is preparing an event in which to show the beauty of Cyprus, its people, its history, its artists, its character, its culture, and for Of course, of his Cinema. It will be an event in which, accompanied by Cypriot artists, professionals and institutions, led by the Ambassador of Cyprus in Spain Helena Mina, celebrate the flourishing cultural relationship that this collaboration fosters by offering those attending the event an aperitif and reception prior to the event projections of the last of the film programs from the guest country.

III Soundtrack Contest
The festival program reaches the final goal of its sixth edition, on September 16, when the III “Audio-visual” Soundtrack Contest and the awards ceremony will take place.
A contest that this year makes an important qualitative leap, counting, among its participants, exponents of music such as Coyote Zora with Candi Murillo, historic member of the band “Reincidentes” from Seville, Jonay Armas, from the Canary Islands, “Chudy” from Argentina , Chico Pérez, from Jaén, Eloy Visual, from Murcia, Carlos Bueso, from Toledo, and The Blue Olive and El Estudio del Colibrí, from Ciudad Real. A total of eight bands, which will perform live an alternative soundtrack to a short film, accompanying its projection, under the watchful eye of a Jury of experts in film music, such as Control’s supervisor and CEO Freaks Music, Patty Carrera; the renowned composer Dr. Juanjo Molina, and the former director of “El Cine que viene” on RNE, Samuel Alarcón.
That day, almost all of the selected directors and participants in this edition, invited artists, such as the leader of the band “Reincidentes” Fernando Madina, renowned actors such as Rosario Pardo, audiovisual producers of Castilla la Mancha and a long list of invited film artists and professionals.

Parallel to the audiovisual content programming of the festival, the AIFF organizes for the 6th consecutive year the professional conferences of the audiovisual sector of Castilla-La Mancha: “Mancha Quality”, for which the registration period will open in the coming days, and which will have place on September 15 and 16 at the Palacio de Valdeparaiso.
