Ally McCoist claims player who left Celtic for free is ‘better’ than £ 4.5 million – EzAnime.net

Ally McCoist believes Celtic should have done more to retain Craig Gordon, telling talkSPORT (Feb. 25, 9:00 am) that the Hearts ace is a “better goalkeeper” than Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas.

Age matters little when you do your job between the clubs and even at 38 Gordon’s reflexes are still as sharp as ever.

After falling out of favor at Celtic, and leaving for free in August after turning down a new deal, the veteran stopper has been a man reborn at Hearts.

Gordon has helped the Edinburgh giants move 11 points clear at the top of the championship. But, as Hearts closes in on a title, the same can’t be said for Celtic.

Crisis-stricken Glasgow giants parted ways with Neil Lennon on Tuesday after their ten-in-a-row dreams turned into a nightmare.

And amid all the trouble at Parkhead, the goalie dilemma has been the source of many headaches. Neither Scott Bain nor Conor Hazard have done enough to suggest that they can be trusted full time, while the £ 4.5 million Barkas have endured a miserable debut season in Scotland.

“Much of the blame has to be pointed out above,” said Rangers legend McCoist, who believes Celtic should have done everything possible to sign former loan star Fraser Forster full time.

“If you’re really serious about aiming for number ten and making an impact in Europe, spend a couple of extra pounds on Fraser Forster.

“Even Craig Gordon, I think Craig Gordon is a better goalkeeper than they have there.”

Despite becoming Celtic’s eighth most expensive signing of all time when he arrived from AEK Athens, Barkas has only played two Premiership games since the turn of the year.

Lennon, in January, publicly admitted that the Greek international has been a disappointment, stating that Barkas has not adapted to the Scottish game (BBC).
