Where does the extra money go?
It became clear from the million-dollar bill presented today that the cabinet has released an additional 2.2 billion euros for “the financing of the new compensation components and for the victims”. This brings the total amount for the settlement of the affair to 5.2 billion euros.
An inquiry with the Ministry of Finance shows that 1.1 billion of the additional amount has been served for additional compensation for parents because of “the high number of applications”, a spokesperson said.
The other half of the amount is intended for “extra arrangements”. According to the spokesperson, this could mean that, for example, more money goes to the pot for ex-partners of victims, but Finance does not rule out that this money is spent ‘behind the scenes’ and goes to policy development, for example.
The ministry emphasizes that the budget is still provisional and still needs to be approved by parliament.
