Largo police have said the man’s death was “involved with an alligator”. According to local authorities, there are signs all around the lake warning of the dangerous reptiles.
Not the first attack
The incident happened at John S. Taylor Park in Largo, a suburb of the city of Saint Petersburg. The park’s website writes that members can “discover the sport of disc golf on an official course, surrounded by the natural beauty of the area.” The course has been constructed along the lake, which is not allowed to swim.
This isn’t the first time someone has searched the lake for drifting Frisbees. Two years ago, a man was standing ‘up to his waist’ in water when he was bitten in the face by an alligator, according to the tweet below. This victim would have survived the attack:
