Alligator climbing fence in Florida hits – 2024-05-02 11:36:36

An interesting event was recorded this Sunday in the state of Florida, where a user was able to record an alligator climbing a fence to get to the other side.

The video, shared by user Travis Akers on social networks, shows the moment in which the enormous reptile climbs the fence of a kind of park to reach the water that was on the other side.

Neither the vertical bars of the fence nor its own short legs were an impediment for the animal to achieve the feat, which the user plainly accompanied with the description: “Florida is wild!”

“I’ve been living in Florida my whole life and I had no idea they did that”; “That alligator consumed something, they can’t do that”; “Awesome”; “Wow, that fence didn’t stop him,” were some of the comments.

Although there is usually the idea that these animals are not good at moving out of the water, the truth is that these beliefs are false, and it is best to be careful and avoid encountering them, since the probability of avoiding them in case of attack, even On land, they are few.

Myths about crocodiles and alligators

Alligators and crocodiles can climb, even trees, something that has been evident in some videos, so running to a high place is not exactly a guarantee of escape.

In 2019, the video of an alligator climbing another fence, a cyclonic mesh type, also surprised internet users, by showing the stocky-looking animal being able to climb up and through the fence.

But climbing is not their only advantage, because although it is commonly believed that these reptiles are slow on land, the truth is that they are quite fast, although they can only run for short distances.

The myth has also spread that it is better to run in a zigzag to confuse them, but the truth is that this would reduce the speed of whoever is trying to escape, and could cost them their only chance to escape by not having enough acceleration in the first seconds, which is key to flee from the predator.

While it is true that an attack is unlikely, it is best to avoid areas where they are commonly found, such as ponds and swamps, especially during the breeding season, between April and June, when they become very territorial.

However, it is useful to know that if you are chased by a crocodile or an alligator, it is best to run at full speed in a straight line without stopping, because although they can run at speeds of up to 9 miles per hour (14.5 km/h ), they only do it for a few meters, and it is the best opportunity to escape.
