The wife of the late singer Karel Gott († 80) Ivana Gottová (45) spoke in an interview with the book “My way to happiness” not only about the autobigraphy of her beloved husband, but also about their acquaintance and great love, which many people did not believe due to the considerable age difference. “Soul mates are simply recognizable, although sometimes they have to wait a while for each other,” she said.

Ivana Gottová, wife of the deceased singer Karel Gott after years she decided to the first interview after Charles’ death for the media. She spoke with editor Miloš Skalka not only about Karel Gott’s autobiography entitled My Book to Happiness, but also revealed how she met Karel Gott.
I was a little girl, Karel a man of productive age
One of the editor’s first questions was: When did you actually start perceiving Karel Gott? When asked, Ivana replied:
“Ever since I was a child, every little child knew him. His songs were played everywhere. At least at home for sure. My mother often played his long-playing records. I remember playing them every Saturday to clean up. I wiped the dust. and sang with “Kája” – Come, ‘I’ll go’ to the ground to look for diamonds… When I was four years old, my brother, two years older, after the divorce of our parents, dreamed of what it would be like to have Karel Gott as a father. How would I have thought that I would marry this singer one day !? I was a little girl and Karel was a man at the most productive age, with a lot of life experience. “
Due to the age difference, many tapped their foreheads
And despite the considerable age difference, Ivana and Karel still found their way to each other. “I believe that souls know long in advance who they belong to. And when the right time comes, they will find, no matter what body boxes they are in. Many initially tapped their foreheads because of our age difference. Although we both always cared what others thought, in this case we had our heads. Allied souls simply get to know each other, although sometimes they have to wait a while for each other. The important thing is that they have been found and can be together again. Yes, I say again. I believe that life does not end with death, I believe in reunion, “said Ivana Gottová, who also confided that Karel had reconsidered many opinions with the disease.
“As he was leaving, he believed that he would meet those who had gone before him and whom he loved. And once again with me… S with love and humility I was grateful for every moment by his side. The advent of disease has taught us that nothing is taken for granted. We rejoiced together every day, every moment. We lived in the present, but also in the past. Charles’ rich history. In the moments when, while writing his autobiography, he began to tell me about his entire long and supremely fulfilled life. He wished that a gift for his loyal fans would remain after him, and he decided to devote as much energy to the book of memories as he could. “
Professionalism and love for the fans did not allow him to leave work
At the end of life Karl Gott evidently dwindling strength. Did he manage to finish everything he wanted? asked a publicist about Ivana ‘s autobiography, which he began working on in 2002.
“I think so. He worked on the book until the last moment, even when he wasn’t feeling well. He had high temperatures and was having trouble breathing. However, his lifelong professionalism, conscientiousness and love for his fans did not allow him to leave his unfinished work. A few weeks before he left, even though he had all the chapters completed, he sometimes had some interesting things, so there were a few more boxes in the book. He also managed to choose a large part of the photographs and dictate often funny captions to them. After that, he could leave with a clear conscience, because he trusted me to pick up the rest of the pictures for him and finish the book exactly as he had imagined.“
His sincerity surprised me, he wouldn’t have shown his weaknesses before
In the autobiography, Karel Gott did not avoid painful topics either. “JHis sincerity and openness surprised me. He was not afraid to talk directly about, for example, his illness or the departure of his parents. In the same way, he wanted to close once and for all the topics discussed by Anticharta or “training” emigration, “said Ivana, who thinks that Karel discovered such a soul to the public at the end of his life.
“At the end of his life he came to great reconciliation. He no longer avoided topics in which he had once felt uncomfortable. He would never have shown his weaknesses before. But he wanted to leave a true statement behind, and complex topics belong to it. But if he didn’t open up, comment on more difficult times, and confront unpleasant things, his personality might not be fully understood. “
The hardest moment of finishing the book after the death of her husband
“The hardest thing was clearly that the author of the book had left before it was published. And he was also my beloved husband. I was aware that Charles’ book must be completed and published according to his wishes. I approached the work with great respect and esteem, given the precious time he devoted to his book and the importance he attached to it. Fortunately, I had a great team of collaborators on hand to help me get the book up to date. “
