Present as a speaker at this webinar, dr. Vito A. Damay, SpJP(K), MKes, AIFO-K, FIHA, FICA, FAsCC, Cardiologist & Blood Vessel Specialist, who is no stranger to being present on television screens and on social media, because he actively provides information about health. On that occasion, dr. Vito discussed the efforts that comorbid patients can take to protect themselves and prevent more severe effects, as well as how to handle them when exposed to the Covid-19 virus. Comorbid patients are patients who have comorbidities, other than the main disease they are currently suffering from, or commonly known as chronic congenital diseases.
If a person has heart disease, obesity, and hypertension, then he is classified as having a comorbid disease. Comorbidities put a person at risk for more severe illness when exposed to Covid-19. Moreover, emergencies often occur when the availability of treatment rooms in hospitals is running low. The combination of these impacts and situations is certainly a risk and dangerous for comorbid patients, so comorbidities need to be controlled and detected early.
Said dr. Vito, in order for a person to survive this pandemic, apart from implementing health protocols, he or she also needs to control comorbidities. Comorbidity can be a ticking time bomb if not detected early.
“The effects that arise in comorbid patients will be more severe and have an impact on long-term organ function. To prevent a more severe risk, then do prevention by detecting comorbid early on and implementing a good healthy lifestyle. For those who are exposed, it is necessary to treat comorbid effects by treating them,” said dr. Vito.
Prevention of these comorbidities can be done by getting adequate rest, eating nutritious food, exercising regularly and sunbathing to form a strong immune system. In addition, during a pandemic, obey health protocols by wearing double mask as recommended, keep a distance to reduce the impact of exposure, minimize crowds and always maintain cleanliness.
Still according to dr. Vito, early detection of comorbidities can be done by checking blood pressure to find out if a person has hypertension, in addition to measuring waist circumference to find out if he is obese, and check himself if he has heart disease.
Comorbid detection is recommended to be done at the age of 20 years to find out whether a person has a congenital disease or not. When detected, these complaints can be treated early to prevent even greater risks.
Society can do medical check up, ECG examination, LDL examination that can be done every year to determine the development of metabolic factors that tend to change. In addition, CT scans, X-rays, X-rays, lab test can also be done periodically to have basic information on the condition of our organs and of course to find out comorbidities.
“As long as the virus is still there, the virus will mutate into other variants to survive, because that is the nature of the virus. So that we can survive in the midst of a pandemic, we must be brave because we already have understanding. It is undeniable that we must continue to be active even during a pandemic. Therefore, we must understand the health protocols that must be adhered to, and be aware of our own health conditions. Knowing and controlling comorbidities is as important as maintaining health protocols and vaccinations to control this pandemic.” said dr. Vito closed the material.
On the same occasion, Karin Zulkarnaen, Chief Marketing Officer Allianz Life Indonesia explained an additional protection program related to Covid-19 for customers. “For Allianz customers who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 positive, Allianz still provides special protection benefits for individual health insurance customers, in the form of the Healthy Isoman program.
