Many innkeepers want money from their insurance because of the corona losses. 150 lawsuits are directed against Allianz Germany alone. But their boss says: The policies were not sold as protection against a pandemic.

Dhe extension of the partial lockdown means a sharp drop in sales for restaurateurs and hoteliers, as the Christmas business is particularly important to them. “The catering industry has our sympathy, it was hit particularly hard in the pandemic,” says Klaus-Peter Röhler, who is responsible for business in Germany on the Group’s board, in an interview with the FAZ

The restaurateurs who have insured themselves against the closure of their business with Allianz can expect compassion. But not a full claims settlement. Therefore, since the first lockdown in the spring, a wave of lawsuits has been rolling towards insurers. The restaurant association Dehoga estimates that up to 40,000 restaurants, cafes and hotels had to close in the meantime, and many believed they were insured in the event. 150 lawsuits are pending against Allianz alone.
