Kempten – Last Saturday, Allgäu Rugby, the TV Kempten department, welcomed TSV 1846 Nürnberg, who had been relegated from last season’s 2nd Bundesliga, in the second home game of the Regionalliga Bayern. 50 spectators saw another defeat despite an improved game from Kempten.
The very strong guests from Franconia started with good attacking play and pushed the home team well back into their own half. After just nine minutes of the game, the guests were able to make their first attempt and took the lead 5-0. The lead only lasted two minutes. Then Manuel Brunner intercepted a pass from the guests and placed the ball in the opponent’s in-goal to make it 5:5.
Eight minutes later it was the guests’ turn again and they took the lead 10-5 with another try. Less than three minutes later, the recovered Claudio Bergamaschi showed his full speed. Bergamaschi sprinted away from all the visitors’ defenders and scored his first attempt of the season to equalize 10:10. Five minutes before the half-time break, the fast Franconians were successful again and took the lead with 17:10 thanks to a try and a successful kick.
Nuremberg exploit gaps in the Allgäu defense
After the break, both teams played a varied game in which they repeatedly made clever use of Nuremberg’s gaps in the Allgäu defense line. By the 70th minute of the game, the Franconians had pulled ahead with three more attempts to make it 32:10. It was only in the final minutes that the Kempten team managed to reduce their lead. Once again the fast Bergamaschi could not be stopped by the guests’ defenders. With his second attempt and Alex Young‘s successful kick, the home team was able to reduce the lead to 17:32.
The Allgäu team didn’t score any more points in the strong final minutes, so that at the end of the game another defeat for the Kempten team was certain. Due to the defeat, Allgäu Rugby remains in last place in the table with two minus points. The Nuremberg team climbed to second place in the table with 17 points. Allgäu Rugby continues next Saturday, October 26th. Then the Kempten team will travel to Augsburg to play against the local RFC, currently fifth in the table with nine points. kb
