Allegedly hiding crimes against humanity in Xinjiang, France investigates 4 fashion retailers

PARIS – Jaksa French has opened an investigation into four fashion retailers allegedly hiding crimes against humanity in the region Xinjiang China . This was revealed by a French court source.

The source said an investigation was being carried out in relation to allegations of China’s treatment of minorities Muslim Uighur in the region, including the use of forced labour.

The source told Uniqlo France, a unit of Japan’s Fast Retailing, that owners of Zara Inditex, SMCP France and Skechers are the subject of investigation, confirming a report by French media site Mediapart.

“An investigation has been opened by the crimes against humanity unit at the counterterrorism prosecutor’s office following the filing of the complaint,” the source was quoted as saying. Reuters, Friday (2/7/2021).

Inditex said it rejected the claims in the legal complaint, adding that it exercised strict traceability controls and would fully cooperate with the French investigation.
