A member of the police with the initials Bripka P was attacked by a mob for allegedly asking a woman for money who did not have a complete vehicle certificate in Medan, North Sumatra on Thursday (11/11).
The Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Hadi Wahyudi confirmed the incident and said that the police officer was being investigated by Bidpropam.
“The person concerned is undergoing an examination at the Medan Polrestbaes Propam,” Hadi said when confirmed, Friday (12/11).
According to him, the incident began when Bripka P found a woman riding a motorcycle coming from the direction of USU towards Jalan Setia Budi. Arriving at the intersection of the Selayang Swimming Pool, the driver was immediately stopped.
Bripka P at that time was wearing Field Service Clothes (PDL) I without rank by riding his motorcycle.
Next, he asked about the completeness of the driving license. However, the woman does not have a driver’s license. Bripka P then asked him for money.
The local community saw the incident and drew attention. They asked that the woman who did not have a driver’s license give her the money because they suspected that Bripka P was a fake police officer because she had no rank.
The incident caused a crowd of people to gather and made Sunggal Police personnel take Bripka P and the driver with the initials NW to the Sector Police for questioning.
“The Bripka P has conducted a urine examination with negative results,” said Hadi.
In the video that circulated, the mob that surrounded the policeman occasionally shouted at him. They wanted to confirm the identity of Brigadier P as a police officer.
Bripka P, who was wearing a black helmet, looked panicked and tried to explain to the emotional residents. The reason, the right hand of the police is held by residents.
“Where is your KTA, where is your KTA,” said a resident in the middle of the noise.
“Yes, listen first, calm down first,” replied Bripka P.
He said that he served at the Delitua Police. However, residents still rejected the police’s explanation. Some of them spoke to Brigadier P in a high tone and pointed at the policeman.
The situation escalated when people shouted at the police as fakes. They also asked Bripka P to take off his clothes and prove his identity. Some residents pulled the police in the middle of the crowd.
“Don’t play with your hands, bro,” said residents trying to calm the atmosphere.
