Alleged thief takes advantage of fire that claimed the life of a 6-year-old boy to steal $ 15,000 worth of property from a Bronx apartment

An alleged thief would have taken advantage of the chaos of a fire that took the life of a 6-year-old child on Friday night in the Bronx, to enter the property and rob tenants, police announced.

According to the authorities, the suspect broke into one of the apartments in the housing complex of Mott Haven, place where the fatal accident occurred at about 5:00 p.m. m., and stole property valued at about $ 15,000.

The thief allegedly managed to take away wedding rings and a collection of expensive electronics, according to the New York Post, which interviewed the victim of the robbery. The man also told the outlet that his dog, Loki, died as a result of the fire.

The 6-year-old boy who died and a 32-year-old man were found unconscious in a third-floor hallway. The man was listed in critical condition at Harlem Hospital, while the boy was pronounced dead.

Police said both are believed to have suffered smoke inhalation. Neighbors said they don’t feel safe inside the building.

“I can’t sleep at night because I don’t know what’s going to happen in the building. Every time you turn around, there is a fire… people had to lose their lives, people lost their animals tonight because of the fire. My heart goes out to that child’s family, “said resident Nakia Williams.

The cause of the fire had not yet been determined. An investigation is ongoing.
