Alleged sex video scandal involving Ui-Jo Hwang – South Korea’s association reacts

South Korea’s football association has temporarily suspended attacker Ui-Jo Hwang from the national team due to a police investigation. The 31-year-old is accused of using his cell phone to record a video of sexual intercourse with his ex-girlfriend without her consent. Hwang denies the allegations.

“We have decided to exclude Hwang from the national team until a final result is reached,” the KFA association said in a statement. National coach Jürgen Klinsmann expresses his understanding of the current situation and says he will “respect” the decision. Hwang scored 19 goals in 62 games for South Korea.

Klinsmann had used Hwang, who is active in the Premier League for Norwich City under team manager David Wagner, in the two most recent World Cup qualifiers despite the ongoing investigation. The Asian Championships in Qatar start for South Korea in seven weeks.

Youn-Nam Lee, who heads the KFA’s ethics committee, has now stated that national players must behave “with a high level of morality and responsibility.” “Football fans have high expectations of the national team, so we believe it is inappropriate to nominate Hwang for the team,” he said.
