Alleged police officers tried to kidnap a man in Vratsa

Two of the perpetrators of attempted kidnapping of a man in Vratsa have been detained, the police announced after an operation by criminal investigators from the General Directorate of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Interior in Vratsa, under the supervision of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Vratsa.

As a result of active operational actions and coordination, two of the attackers of a 49-year-old man from Vratsa were identified. The pre-trial proceedings in the case were instituted on the day of the received signal for an attack on telephone number 112.

In the evening of July 20, 2021, on Dimitraki Hadjitoshev Street in the town of Vratsa, the man was stopped by four masked men, introduced themselves as employees of the Ministry of Interior. They struck him in the chest with an electric shock, and their further intentions were thwarted by the intervention of a witness to what was happening.

Immediately after the signal, the operative actions started, during which evidence was collected about the identity of two of the attackers – aged 30 and 27.

Searches were carried out at several addresses in different cities of the country. Items related to the subject of the case were seized. Expert examinations have been appointed.

Today, by order of the supervising prosecutor, the accused were detained for up to 72 hours. A request for imposition of “detention in custody” measures against the two is to be submitted to the court. They have been prosecuted for attempted kidnapping.

Active actions continue to establish the identity of the other persons involved in the committed crime.
