After the bloody crime in Graz, in which a 39-year-old woman died, the alleged perpetrator has now been brought out of an artificial deep sleep. However, the man is still not able to be questioned, said police spokeswoman Johanna Paar on Tuesday. The 28-year-old suspect also caused a car accident on Saturday after the alleged murder, in which a bystander was killed. He himself was badly injured.
According to investigators, it is still unclear when the suspect can be questioned. So far, his state of health has not allowed it, said Paar. The 39-year-old was found by a neighbor in her apartment building in the western district of Wetzelsdorf around 6 a.m. on Saturday, and despite resuscitation measures, she died of her injuries.
Her partner, who is registered in the Steyr-Land district in Upper Austria, had meanwhile fled by car in the direction of the city. On Straßganger Straße, which is close to the crime scene and runs relatively straight, he accelerated the car and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. The experts have now been able to confirm that this happened with suicidal intent. The driver of the other vehicle, a 31-year-old from Graz, died at the scene of the accident.
According to the statistics of the Autonomous Women’s Shelters in Austria, the bloody crime is the ninth suspected femicide of the year committed by (ex-)partners, family members or by people close to the victim.
