Assault, threats, fraud and drugs are some of the crimes that make up the extensive criminal history of the alleged person involved in the shooting at the Cathedral of San Juan El Divino, in New York.
The aggressor was identified by the police authorities of that city as Luis Vásquez, 52, and according to a team of journalists from Telemundo 47.
This shooting is not the first criminal act that Vasquez allegedly committed before being shot in the head by New York police officers (NYPD) on Sunday afternoon.
According to different news agencies, several witnesses to the shooting say they heard the man yelling at the police to shoot him.
Vasquez was wanted for threatening firearms last summer. However, he previously had a history of assault, attempted murder, fraud and drug crimes 30 years ago, as investigated by Carlos Zapato, a reporter for the US media.
On the outskirts of Vásquez’s residence, agents from the NYPD bomb squad were present on Monday and according to neighbors, who cannot believe this fact, on the day of the attack, there were more of policemen.
At the entrance of the apartment in which the alleged criminal had lived with his mother for 5 years, the ten commandments of the Catholic religion were placed.
Shooting outside the Cathedral
Last Sunday Luis Vásquez was shot dead by the New York Police after opening fire on the steps of the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in Manhattan, the main church of the Episcopal diocese of New York.
The man wore a mask and cap with the flag of the Dominican Republic.
Witnesses said the man was shooting when hundreds of people began to disperse after the open-air choral concert held at the iconic church, which ended abruptly around 4 pm.
New York City Councilor Mark Levine said no one else was injured after the attacker began firing “indiscriminately into the air.”
Two firearms and a bag containing gasoline, ropes, knives and other items were recovered at the scene.
